BARCA TURN DOWN RVP
It is thought that Barcelona have rejected the opportunity to sign Arsenal striker Robin van Persie this season.
The Dutchman has scored 40 goals for both club and country this season and is regarded as one of the key players available in the transfer window. He has only one year left on his current contract with Arsenal.
He is looking for a move away from Arsenal in order to win more trophies. The 28-year-old is getting closer towards the 30-year-old mark, which would make him unattractive for the big clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid. Hence, he is thought that he would finally make a move from Arsenal, whom he joined back in 2004.
Barcelona have been reported in some of the potential destinations for the Dutchman. However, the Spanish club has recently revealed that they will not be interested in signing the player should he become available.
It has been a very poor season for Barcelona compared to the incredible standards they had set in the previous three seasons. They have failed to defend the Spanish league title, while the opportunity to become the first club to win back-to-back Champions League titles has also deserted them. One of the reasons for this has been the lack of a third dimension within the team especially with the injury to David Villa.
Yet, they will not be signing Robin van Persie partly because of the transfer fee involved. Barcelona struggling with a lot of debts has revealed by the President Sandro Rosell. It was initially thought that a bid of around £ 35 million would be enough to convince Arsenal to sell their star asset especially with the arrival of Lukas Podolski following the end of the Euro 2012. However, it is thought that Arsenal would now be willing to accept an offer of around £ 20 million.
