BARCELONA EYEING FIRST LEAGUE WIN AT SOCIEDAD

Five-time European champions Barcelona are eyeing their first league win of the new Spanish La Liga season ahead of their trip to play Real Sociedad this weekend. Real Sociedad welcome Barcelona to San Sebastián on Sunday evening hoping to build on their winning start to the new league season.

Barcelona fans were disappointed after their team started the new La Liga season with a home draw. They were forced to a goalless draw at home to Rayo Vallecano on Saturday. The Catalan giants finished the Rayo Vallecano game with ten men after club skipper Sergio Busquets was sent off for two yellow cards in the third minute of stoppage time. Manager Xavi Hernandez tried to affect the game positively with some attacking substitutions in the second half, but it turned out to be ineffective after Rayo Vallecano managed to secure a point from the game.

Xavi and his players are keen to wrestle the La Liga title from arch rivals Real Madrid this season. However, they didn’t make the best start in their quest to wrestle the title from Real Madrid thanks to the draw with Rayo Vallecano. Barcelona are looking for their first league title in three seasons. The Catalan giants have not won the league title since the 2019/20 season. Atletico Madrid won the league title during the penultimate season before the title was wrestled from them by city rivals Real Madrid last season. Holders Real Madrid came from behind to secure a 2-1 away win over newly promoted Almeriato make a winning start to the defence of their La Liga title. Lucas Vazquez and David Alaba were on target for Real Madrid during the game.
For the Real Sociedad game, Spanish player Busquets is suspended after his red card against Rayo Vallecano. He is suspended for one game after collecting two yellow cards during the game.
