BARCELONA QUARTET OUT OF SEVILLA CLASH
Barcelona will be without four new players ahead of their Spanish Copa Del Rey semi-final first leg clash with Sevilla on Wednesday night as the club's injury crisis shows no signs of stopping in the nearest future. Barcelona have already missed some key players due to long-term injuries.
Star defender Gerard Pique has not played for Barcelona since suffering a serious knee injury during the La Liga defeat at the home of league leaders Atletico Madrid in November, while promising forward AnsuFati also succumbed to a long-term knee injury earlier this season on the back of his promising start to the season. The two players will definitely miss the Sevilla clash mentioned earlier in addition to the newly injured quartet of Ronald Araujo, Martin Braithwaite, SerginoDest and Miralem Pjanic. The club ruled out the four players namely Miralem Pjanic, SerginoDest, Martin Braithwaite and Ronald Araujo out of the Sevilla game on Wednesday night via a statement on the playing squad for the game.
Ronald Araujo suffered an ankle injury during the battling win over hosts Real Betis in the Spanish La Liga at the weekend and he's doubtful for the upcoming Champions League clash with Paris Saint Germain (PSG) at the Nou Camp next week. The defender is optimistic that he would be fit for the game. During that Real Betis game, Miralem Pjanic and Martin Braithwaite picked up respective injuries. Bosnian international midfielder Pjanic picked up a left foot injury during the game, which ended in a 3-2 win for the Catalans. On his part, Danish international Martin Braithwaite sustained a thigh injury during the same game. For American defender SerginoDest, he has been out of action since last month due to a thigh injury and he has already suffered a relapse in his quest to recover from the injury.
