Filipe Luis speaks on the future of Neymar amid Barcelona return talk
Brazilian defender Filipe Luis has said that the return of Neymar to Barcelona would be considered as a shock, although it should benefit the Spanish champions. The Brazil international has experienced a mixed set of fortunes since making the world-record move to Paris Saint-Germain two years ago and he has recently been tipped to head back to the Camp Nou.
Speaking to Globo Esporte, Luis said that he has no idea regarding the future of Neymar, who has bowed out of Copa America duty due to injury. He added that Neymar’s potential return to the Blaugrana can be regarded as a huge shock, though he should prove a great signing for the Catalan giants.
He told the publication: “I don’t really know if it [Neymar joining Barca] would be possible or not, but it’d be a huge shock and a great signing for. As for Neymar, all I’m hoping is that he can enjoy his football again. He’s gone through tough time in his career, but he’s a great player and we miss him a lot here [in the national team].”
Neymar had been touted to return to the Blaugrana last summer but the speculation was quickly rebuffed by Paris Saint-Germain. Despite this, the speculation regarding the attacker’s future has refused to fade and recent reports have suggested that the Catalans could make a big-money approach for the Brazilian under the recommendation of talismanic captain Lionel Messi.
Barcelona comfortably won the league title last term but the season ended in a rather sour note for them as they were downed by Valencia for the Copa del Rey title. Apart from that, the Blaugrana suffered another painful exit at the semi-final stage of the Champions League to Liverpool after they squandered a three-goal advantage from the opening leg at the Camp Nou.
