Gerard Pique insists he will retire when he stops enjoying football
Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has revealed that he would step down from the beautiful game once he loses the enjoyment from the sport. The central defender started the season in a poor fashion where he was guilty of making several defensive mistakes but of late, he has improved on his performances while getting on the scoresheet more regularly.
Speaking after the recent 5-0 triumph over Levante, Pique said that he is pleased with the improved defensive record from the Blaugrana of late while admitting that he could have started the season better on the personal scale, he said:"We're playing better football recently, conceding less goals and scoring many more. Now, we're thinking about the next game [against Celta Vigo]. It's tough to start like I did in previous seasons, but the day I don't enjoy what I do, I will leave it. We hope to do a lot of great things with this great generation of players."
“The Catalan giants have struggled to exhibit the same dominance from the previous league campaign“ and they have nonetheless managed to create a three-point gap between them and second-placed Sevilla after the opening 16 matches. Meanwhile, the Camp Nou side have fared much better in Europe where they managed to secure round of 16 progress with the top spot and they are now “scheduled to face Lyon“.
On paper, Barcelona seem to have the advantage over the French outfit when it comes to the European competitions but manager Ernesto Valverde has already called for caution against Les Gones after the team managed to secure four points off Manchester City during their group phase. The French outfit secured a shock victory on the road to the Citizens during their Champions League opener and they thereafter scrapped through to the knockouts with five successive draws.
