Luis Enrique backs Strength of Barcelona

Luis Enrique is of the opinion that the current squad at Barcelona is the strongest in the club’s history.

The Spanish club has had some incredible moments since the turn of the millennium. They have won a whole host of titles to reduce the deficit between them and archrivals Real Madrid. This has been made possible only by the help of some incredible players like Ronaldinho and Lionel Messi. Recent squads, however, have been given the title as being the best in the club’s history, but Enrique feels that they could have been surpassed with the squad that he has assembled.

Barcelona have done away with a number of injury prone and poor performing players over the summer. The likes of Thomas Vermaelen and Marc Batra have left the club to be replaced by a raft of new signings. Andre Gomes, Denis Suarez, Lucas Digne, and Samuel Umtiti are some of the names to have enriched the Barcelona squad for the 2016-17 season. Enrique feels that these additions have had a significant effect in terms of the competition for places. The presence of competition in the squad means that it is capable of taking on opposition in almost every competition.

Enrique has already set the target of doing well in Europe after having failed to win the Champions League last season."On paper, this is the best squad that I have had in my three years at Barca. We have a squad that has been strengthened brilliantly.All the new players have settled in well. They have quality and will have to compete for a place. It's now up to us to see if we can retain the titles we won last season and also win more. I hope we can live up to expectations. While the window remains open, we are ready to strengthen our squad," said Enrique.
