Barcelona criticized after Dealing with Media
Barcelona have been criticised for their media performance in a 2-0 win over Real Betis.
However, manager Luis Enrique has defended his players by saying that the media have been baselessly accusing them of performing poorly. A third consecutive win in the league helped Barcelona move closer towards the league title. They remain level on points with Atletico Madrid and just one point ahead of Real Madrid, but it is such a promising position than they were a few weeks ago. Barcelona had a 10 point advantage at the start of March, but three consecutive defeats have left them in a very vulnerable position.
After having just been knocked out of the Champions League by underdogs Atletico Madrid, Enrique knows that it is very important that the Catalan club lift the league title at the very least. Otherwise, there is a danger of the season being classified as a disappointment. Ivan Rakitic opened the scoring against Betis before the game was secured with a second goal by Luis Suarez. This helped the Uruguayan to move further clear at the top of the race for the Pichichi award. After scoring 14 goals in the last two games, Enrique says that the number of goals scored does not matter and three points are more important at the end of the day.
"What's the problem, if you don't win 8-0, does it not count? This is a very competitive league with three teams fighting for the title. I don't think we suffered at all, given the pressure you are under in these games, I think we played really well. Looking at the results I don't think any of the three teams are going to slip up and it's in our own hands. The first half was a bit of a battle but in the second half we were the better team,” said Enrique.
